Description of Audio Watermarking Tools 2 0.08.10

Digital watermark for your audio files
Audio Watermarking Tools 2 (AWT2) is a set of shareware utilities for embedding (and retrieving) digital watermarks within audio files. The tools are distributed as a package of GUI and console utilities running on Microsoft Windows 7/Vista/XP/NT/2000/Server, Apple Mac OS X and Linux/*nix systems; both x86 and x64 versions are available. SDK is available as well.

The package does not require any installation and can be used right after unpacking. The package consists of encoder (watermark embedding tool), decoder (watermark extraction tool), GUI front-end utility and detailed User Guide.

AWT2 watermarks are inaudible and highly robust, surviving low bitrate transcoding with lossy coders, mixing, effect processing, acoustic coupling (transducing via air) and time stretching. AWT2 offers unprecedentedly high watermarking data rate up to 125 bps (i.e. more than 16 bytes in one second of audio); watermark payloads up to 120 bytes long are supported.

AWT2 protects your rights by ensuring that your watermark is detectable (only by you!) in any copy of your audio materials transmitted or broadcasted anywhere.

Editor's review for Audio Watermarking Tools 2

Let’s begin by clarifying exactly what is meant by Audio Watermarking. Simply put, Audio Watermarking is a security mechanism that “marks” your audio recordings. When played back, it’s undetectable through normal listening procedures. The “mark” can, however, be detected by a watermarking software system. Not so simply put, the system embeds and retrieves digital “watermarks” within audio files. The term “watermark”, for most of us, brings to mind the picture that can be seen on American paper currency when held up to a light source. Audio watermarks cannot be detected without the right software. The marks typically consist of music or voice recording. Watermarking is a necessity to protect copyrights and to verify ownership.

Still not sure? Here’s an example: Let’s say you’re a musician marketing your wares on the Internet. You’ll add a unique water mark to every track you sell. Each track sold will identify not only you, but the buyer of that track. The next time you hear your song played, you record it. Using the software program for watermarking, you discover that the source playing your track wasn’t an approved sale; thereby identifying who’s pirating your creation by the watermark. How does one purchase this magnificent creation? Good news… Audio Watermarking Tools 2 (AWT2) is your answer.

AWT2 is a program for embedding digital watermarks and in addition, it can retrieve watermarks that have been embedded in the first place. The program is sold as GUI and console utilities, and runs on Microsoft Windows 7/Vista/XP/NT/2000/Server, Apple Mac OS X as well as Linux/nix. It is available in x86 and x64 versions. Upon request, some other platforms can be supported. What you get when you open the package will be an encoder which can embed the watermark, a decoder for extracting the watermark, a GUI front-end utility and an in-depth user guide.

Here’s more good news! You can try the AWT2 package for free! The demo version has limited functionality but offers enough to execute a healthy assortment of performance tests. Once you’ve decided to purchase the full version (how could you not resist?), it is available in four different versions; the only difference being in the maximum payload length which also determines the package price. Another selling point is that the console interface is relatively user-friendly and comprehensive so it doesn’t take a tech geek to figure out how to use it!

So how do you know if you need the AWT2? Anyone dealing in audio-related fields should have one. Seriously, the music industry alone (i.e. on-line music stores, broadcasting companies, musicians/composers, recording studios) should never be without this tool. It’s 2011, folks! Security is a hot topic so protect what’s yours before someone else takes it and protects it as their own!
