GraphicsGale is a graphic editing solution specifically designed to work well with smaller files such as Windows icons, cursors and animated GIFs. However, it works equally well with any input file common in today’s graphics world and can also output to any of these file types. In addition to the main editing application, GraphicsGale also includes a full-featured image browser.

GraphicsGale’s strength is its ability to edit animated files, which should come as no surprise, since the program was developed in Japan. In particular, its onion skin feature comes in very handy to view the next and previous frames in relation to the current frame. Alpha blending allows you to seamlessly blend multiple layers of an image to create life-like pictures and animations. Real-time preview gives you instant feedback regarding your edits. If something isn’t turning out the way you thought, this makes it a simple matter to quickly find the problem and try something else.

GraphicsGale has all the painting tools you could ask for, including: Pen, Connect Line, Spline Curve, Rectangle, Oval, Filled Oval and Color Replacer. No matter where you need to draw and how fine the detail, you have the tools to get the job done. Drawing around text is a snap with all kinds of borders, character pitch and antialiasing. Selection tools are equally diverse including: rectangular, ovular, laso, magic wand and selection by color. When you’re altering the entire image, you have access to the usual functions such as rotation, stretching and scrolling capabilities.
