X-Mouse Button Control was originally designed and written for Microsoft Windows XP/2003 and later x64 editions but I have also, from version 1.5, built a 32bit version that supports all 32bit versions of windows from Windows 2000. The installation kit determines which OS you are running and therefore which version to install automatically.
You are able to provide an application specific mappings, which means one application can use the mouse differently from another. This is useful for games which do not inherently support the extended mouse buttons, because you can map keys to each button.

The X Mouse Button Control software is a windows application that you can use if you want to remap the way that your mouse buttons perform. Although the software was originally created for use with Microsoft Windows XP and later additions of Windows, there is also a version available for those who still run Windows 2000 on their PCs. The best part is that you do not have to worry since the installation kit will automatically install itself based on which operating system it detects.
One of the advantages of the X Mouse Button Control software is that it allows you to apply mouse mappings separately so that your mouse will automatically adjust depending on which program you are using. Thus, you can use it for game use, processing, and data control without physically changing anything. There are a variety of functions that are supported by the X Mouse Button Control which include volume adjustment, media player control, custom keystrokes, e-mail automatic button launch, sticky buttons, Vista support, copy/cut/paste, screen capture, restore desktop icons.
The software supports five buttons for your mouse, but those who have a mouse that is not supported in XP64 then the software will not function correctly. However, those with Windows 2000 and up, the X-Mouse Button Control software will support both 64 bit and 32 bit editions of Windows.
