Description of LogicCircuit 2.12.5.22
Design and simulate digital logic circuits
LogicCircuit is free, open source educational software for designing and simulating digital logic circuits. Intuitive graphical user interface, allows you to create unrestricted circuit hierarchy with multi bit buses, debug circuits behavior with oscilloscope, and navigate running circuits hierarchy.
Key features
• Tri - state buffer added to the list of standard gates.
• Tools menu includes Report dialog. Now you can see some statistics about your digital circuit.
• Edit menu extended with two new selection commands which allows you to find unconnected circuits and wires.
• Help menu now open web browser and navigate to help section of this site.
• Error messages are easier to read and understand.
• Tips will be shown at the very bottom of the program suggesting next available gestures for different actions.
• Current scroll position preserved and restored while switching between diagrams.
Editor's review for LogicCircuit
Logic Circuit is a free, open-source software program to enable you to build circuits and simulate their efficiency when power is applied. The program is a great teaching tool for those just getting into the electrical engineering field who need a simulator that will accurately mimic the functionality of logic circuits without getting bogged down in complicated oscillating circuits.
If you’ve always wanted to dabble in electrical circuits but want to spare yourself a few jolts, Logic Circuit is a great testing tool to determine whether you grasp the basic concepts of circuits and their interaction.
Logic Circuit is a fun, easy-to-use program that allows you to create simple and complex circuits, edit them, set various properties and then view the results when you apply power to them. Not only can it simulate circuits, but it will also provide an accurate depiction of the behavior of RAM and ROM. Of course, the contents of the RAM or ROM will be gibberish, but it allows you to see how data is written to and/or read from both types of memory.
The interface is Logic Circuit’s strong suit. It is incredibly intuitive while providing all the advanced editing features you need to create a variety of circuit configurations. When you open the program, you see a Main circuit. You start by simply dragging an item on the left to the design surface. You can change the properties of any item by double clicking on that item. To connect two or more circuits, you simply draw wire lines with your mouse to connect them. If you need to expand a wire, simply draw the wire off the end of another. When you want to select and move more than one item on your circuit, it’s as simple as holding the control key. This will move the symbols and the wires to their new position. If you want to move the symbol without the wires, just add shift, and it will be done.
When you want to create advanced circuits, it’s very simple to create a sub circuit or a reusable logical circuit. Once you’ve created and connected them, you can double click on them in the left pane to edit their properties. Input and output pins are easily created by dragging and dropping them onto the appropriate circuit. Double clicking it allows you to set properties such as bit width, name, description and the side of the circuit on which you want the pin.
With its simple interface and useful online help, Logic Circuit is a breeze to use, and would-be engineers can learn a lot about simple and complex circuits by playing around with it. And since the program is open source, anyone who wants to can add additional functionality.
For now, though, Logic Circuit is an excellent free teaching tool for anyone with electricity on the brain.
