Editor's review for Safe AutoLogon

Is your company constantly bogged down with requests to recover lost passwords or change existing ones? Have you ever thought it would be so much easier if the system simply automatically logged these people in while keeping the password encrypted and away from possible prying eyes? This is exactly the niche filled by Safe AutoLogon.

Safe AutoLogon is an incredibly useful tool that IT helpdesks and other network support teams can use to bypass the user login prompt and allow authorized users to proceed directly to the desktop upon entering their user name. Passwords are stored using 256-bit AES encryption, which is next to impossible to crack, and are centrally managed either through Active Directory or through the proprietary Safe AutoLogon Password server. Though this isn’t ideal for situations where sensitive information is involved, it could vastly improve resource utilization on many networks and for most helpdesk services.

Most organizations require that their users change their password every 30, 60 or 90 days. Since Safe AutoLogon manages passwords in a central location, it’s a snap to automatically change all passwords rather than manually performing this task on each machine. This also allows administrators to change passwords for machines that aren’t currently switched on. While Safe AutoLogon is changing the passwords, it automatically updates each password in Active Directory, saving the administrator even more time and allowing them to focus on more important matters.

If you run a lot of public machines such as kiosks, public library computers, etc., most problems you encounter can be solved by simply rebooting the machine. You can even do this from a remote location, allowing your users to start using the machines in a hurry.

Classrooms can be a similar headache, with students constantly forgetting their password or changing those of their peers. All these problems will go by the wayside once you install Safe AutoLogon.
You can even use it to run programs that will only run upon login by simply starting up a computer. If you don’t want this computer to be available afterward, you can set Safe AutoLogon to lock the machine immediately after login.

Larger enterprise customers will want to take advantage of SALPS, Safe AutoLogon Password Server, which allows these organizations greater flexibility in managing passwords from a central location. This is a simple management console that can update client passwords before the actual logon occurs, allowing for automatic updating of passwords without the need for an administrator to perform updates manually.

Safe AutoLogon is certified for all recent Windows versions, including Windows 7, Vista and 2008R2. Site licensing options are available, along with a free quote.

For companies looking to take basic tasks off the plates of their administrators, Safe AutoLogon is a big step in the right direction. With its 256-bit encryption and Windows certification, it’s a safe bet in most network environments. Though it may cost up front, the program is sure to pay for itself in no time through significantly more secure passwords and less headaches for IT helpdesks everywhere.
