Description of Process Lasso 5.1.0.82

Automated priority optimization to improve responsiveness
Process Lasso is a unique new technology that will, amongst other things, improve your PC's responsiveness and stability. Windows, by design, allows programs to monopolize your CPU without restraint -- leading to freezes and hangs. Process Lasso's ProBalance technology intelligently adjusts the priority of running programs so that badly behaved programs won't interfere with your ability to use the computer!

In addition, Process Lasso offers capabilities such as default process priorities and affinities, termination of disallowed processes, instance count limits, a system responsiveness graph, logging of processes, keep select processes running (auto-restart), and much more!

Best of all, Process Lasso's core process management engine is isolated from the GUI. This means it can do its job consuming almost no system resources, and without ever making a peep. You may not notice its running, but certainly will notice if you ever uninstall it. Try it and see!

We provide a graphical demonstration on our web site, for any skeptics. We don't sell gimmicks at Bitsum. A 64-bit build is available as a separate download.

Editor's review for Process Lasso

Only a short while ago, a computer with multiple processors was the sole domain of high end servers in a data center. With the advent of hyperthreading and the new generation of chips from Intel, AMD and other manufacturers multiple processors, or 'cores', can now be found in consumer computers from netbooks through to custom built gaming systems.

To Microsoft Windows, each core looks like a separate CPU. The built in Task Manager was updated to allow some rudimentary control of each core but this only allowed the computer user to increase or decrease the priority of a program allowing a bit more horse power to reach more important programs. Windows, by its original design, allows programs to monopolize your CPU with no restraint which can lead to your computer freezing or hanging. There's a lot of stuff going on under the hood of the Windows operating system. Trying to figure out how all the bits and pieces work together is like lifting the hood on a Ferrari and wondering how to make it run faster. Fortunately you don't have to be a geek to get the most performance out of your everyday computing experience.

Process Lasso from Bitsum Technologies is an easy to use tool that can automatically adjust the priority of running programs on your computer so that badly behaved programs won't interfere with your ability to use the computer. It allows you to create specific rules that all the programs and processes running on your computer will automatically comply with. This leads to much better control of CPU allocation which translates into improved system responsiveness.

You can instruct Process Lasso to block certain programs from running by creating what is effectively a blacklist. This can be extremely useful when blocking malicious software before attempting a clean up with antivirus software. For the avid gamer there is a gaming mode which allows easy process priority optimization to get the best experience out of the game.

Process Lasso also does a great job by giving you the power over how CPU is allotted to running process and how the resources should be allocated in case a certain threshold is exceeded. However, care should be taken when tweaking everything up as there may appear problems on the way. Some system tuning utilities mess up your system default values and causing more harm than good. Process Lasso itself makes no registry or system setting changes but it does provide advanced tools that will enable you to make changes if you choose. Process Lasso can be used to achieve great efficiency on even the latest high end computers. But do note that its greatest effect will be seen on older/slower machines with relatively little CPU 'power' such as Netbooks, Tablets, and older desktops.

All in all, Process Lasso offers a wide variety of ways to control how running programs are allocated to your CPUs. You choose the priority at which processes should run and on which CPUs they should run. It is simply your all-in-one automatic Windows process tuner!
