Editor's review for Enable Viacam
Everyone is so used to working with the mouse but hankers for something more convenient and easier. The Enable Viacam, also known as eViacam, is the replacement software for the mouse that links the movement of your hand with the cursor. Now, your head movement can conveniently replace the way a mouse works. The eViacam is based on Facial Mouse – the software which is award-winning and can work on any standard computer which has a webcam, but does not need any additional hardware.
This eViacam program supports Linux, Windows Vista, Windows XP, Windows 7 and Windows 2000.
All you have to do is to just download the installer for Windows. While for Linux, a pre-compiled binary .rpm and .deb is provided for distribution. The primary action before installation of eViacam is to manually configure your webcam and its adjustment for 25 fps and more. You can take help from the information in the manual for the camera. Once your webcam is properly installed and configured, eViacam may be run. This application has to be opened and it will detect automatically the webcam and start live video streaming.
You should fix the webcam so that your face can be viewed from the front such that a third of the frame width is occupied by your face width. You may centre the tracking box around your face by using the mouse to displace the blue box on the screen or by moving the webcam. You should then enable the function for tracking from the File menu and move your head and appraise the results. Then from the options dialog box, the sensitivity or the speed of the Y and X axis of the webcam should be adjusted. With the help of the mouse pointer, the entire screen area should be covered by you.
For completion of the action, you may click on a mouse, but with eViacam you just need to position the pointer over the position desired and in a few seconds, a click will be produced. The dwelling time and the kind of clicks may be adjusted as per your requirement from the dialog box.
With convenience and ease at its best, eViacam looks set to woo the users who reckon that using the mouse is a hassle.
