NJStar Communicator allows user to input, read and print Chinese/Japanese/Korean (CJK) languages on normal English or western Windows. It's most useful for viewing CJK web pages, read/write CJK email and newsgroup discussions.

If you’re Chinese, Japanese or Korean or can read or type either of those three languages, NJStar Communicator is going to make your life much easier. No longer do you need to restart your computer and load the CJK version of Windows to get the functionality you need. Now it’s as simple as a few mouse clicks.

NJStar Communicator is a suite of several tools that make it much easier to input, output and read Chinese, Japanese or Korean. The suite includes: a multilingual viewer, an input editor for all three languages, a Universal Code Converter to convert characters between all three languages, a picture message sender and a local SMTP server for express mail.

Let’s talk a bit about the Universal Code Converter. This is a single and batch converter that will take anything you copy to the clipboard and convert it amongst various character sets. It supports a slew of input and output formats, and anything you input can also be converted into a GIF picture. We’ll not get into the cornucopia of codes, but basically, if it’s a Chinese, Japanese or Korean encoding scheme, the program can convert between them. It is indeed universal. Perhaps the neatest part is its ability to take a picture of anything and export it as a GIF file.

The Universal Code Converter is the engine of NJStar Communicator, and there are several modules that utilize that engine. For example, a few clicks of the mouse will allow you to convert a Simplified Chinese website into Traditional Chinese and vice versa. There’s also a handy utility that lets you type CJK characters into the message window of any chat client such as ICQ, AIM, MSN, Google or Yahoo. Trying to email a friend or family member in China, Japan or Korea? No problem. NJStar Communicator lets you type the appropriate characters into Outlook, Outlook Express, Eudora, Gmail, Hotmail or any other web email client.

The functionality of NJStar Communicator isn’t limited purely to communications. It will also let you view Chinese, Japanese and Korean titles on audio and video tracks in the most popular media players including: Winamp, Windows Media Player and Real Player. It will even fix problems whereby iPhones and iPods don’t display CJK characters in track titles correctly. It does so by converting these to Unicode, which does display properly on these devices.

In short, NJStar Communicator allows you to read and write Chinese, Japanese and Korean characters anywhere you might need to, from the web to Microsoft Word. And it does so with a minimalist interface that gets the job done quickly.
