Developed by pioneers in the anti-virus and anti-spyware industry, Wuzzup was developed to solve a growing problem: malware is now emerging at a rate of about 2,500 new products a day (see http://bugbopper.com/Support/KnowledgeBase/GrowthOfMalware.asp) and our products are not keeping pace. The average scanner only detects about 62% of malware files, no product detects more than about 80%, and less than 1% of all malware is detected by all products (see http://bugbopper.com/Support/KnowledgeBase/DetectionErrors.asp). There are dozens, possibly hundreds of anti-malware programs on the web today, along with several fake ones. So when a new program comes along, you’re naturally very skeptical about both its legitimacy and its effectiveness. In the case of Wuzzip, a name that may not engender confidence in itself, you can rest assured of both.
Wuzzup was created due to the several shortcomings of the anti-malware products on the market today. They generally have large footprints, and at the same time, they fail to catch at least 20% of the malware on your system. BugBopper, the creators of Wuzzup, set out to change all that when creating this brand new yet comprehensive malware detector.
The first thing you will notice about Wuzzup is its small footprint – the installer is only three Megs in size. It may seem hard to believe that a program so small can detect the millions of files, cookies and registry entries out to infect your computer and drive you up the nearest wall, but that indeed appears to be the case.
At the time of this writing, Wuzzup had detected 1,142,444 known malware programs, 6,712,003 executable files and 120,525 registry entries. Not bad for a program that launched about a month ago. Wuzzup explores your system, detecting and classifying all the malware it can. If it finds something it doesn’t recognize, it immediately sends the file to its lab for automated analysis and scanning. It then scans a few hours later with the updated information. This seems to be quite a fool-proof approach to malware detection without many drawbacks. As long as their labs can keep up with the influx of incoming data, the process should work well.
Wuzzup is compatible with all other anti-malware products. This means it won’t be recognized as malware if you run them. It’s available free of charge, and all file analysis is also free. Boasting the highest detection rate in the industry is quite a claim, and only time will tell if it lives up to its own high standards.
For now, though, Wuzzup is making a huge splash on the anti-malware scene and is definitely worth adding to your anti-malware collection. If things work as well as they have so far, it may replace your collection sooner than you think.
